A quick preview of one type of book that you'll see at the upcoming Handmade Market (Bloomington, Indiana at the Convention Center)... These sketchbooks are hand-bound with good drawing paper and discarded maps. The covers are bound in Iris book cloth and gray paper inset with map fragments.

February: Zine

          February's intellectual collaboration was a zine. It was great fun and a new experience to fill out content for a small format. Like January's collaboration, Dust of Snow, we set a few parameters and this month's were as follows: Zine Black and White Teach or Preach (2) 8.5 x 11 Sheets of Paper The nature of zines tends to be a quick and cheap way to get information out to people. Japanese Bookbinding Workshop

JAPANESE BOOKBINDING WORKSHOP at PAPER CRANE GALLERY Date:  March 26, 2011 Time:  1-4pm Cost:  $60 (includes materials & supplies) Skill:  Beginning to Intermediate Participants:  8 (5 minimum) Using traditional Japanese bookbinding methods, each participant will make their own pouch bound book.  This binding style is very popular, but is a structure that can be used for many applications. The Japanese pouch-bound book is a great introduction to bookbinding and has a very sophisticated look. The techniques taught in the workshop can be applied to many types of projects.
