Science of Art Wrap Up

This past Friday, I had the privilege of spending the evening with science loving people who came to the WonderLab Museum for the First Fridays: Science of Art event.  When asked to participate, I was given the option to pick the theme as well as the activities I wanted to offer. It took no time to decide on an underwater theme and two activities: a pop-up station and a collaborative artists' book. Before we kicked off the evening, I spent some time teaching the stellar volunteers how to make the pop ups I brought with me. Each pop up featured…

First Fridays Science of Art

I am excited to announce my participation in the First Fridays Science of Art at the  Wonderlab! On September 2, I will be sharing my enthusiasm for deep sea life and artist books! The ocean is a mysterious and alluring place where, in the vast deep waters, light gives way to darkness. Down here scientists are working to discover the wide range of strange and intriguing life forms that flourish in these cold, high pressure ecosystems. During this First Friday: Science of Art, participants are invited to draw on the ocean as a point of inspiration as we create deep…

Box Models

In an effort to go beyond the printed tutorial or weekend workshop, I've created these box models as a teaching tool to assist in the construction of high quality presentation enclosures. These boxes could be used for training at an institution, as a visual aid for an instructor, or to guide a student learning on their own. Each box is made from quality binder’s board and is wrapped in a variety of beautiful handmade paper, from Hook Pottery Paper, with the exception of the Dover book cloth spines. Clamshell Box Model $275.00 8.5 x 6.5 x 1.5" This box model…

After the success of our 2011 Intellectual Collaboration projects that took one month from conception to completion, we wanted to try the same idea with a longer time frame. The goal was to end up with finished pieces as opposed to the one month book sketches. The end result was something that should be "exhibit ready" so that the time spent on these projects would hopefully yield even more benefit than the prior learning experiences. With all…

Happy Valentines Day

I've just finished a small edition of tunnel books and it seems appropriate to post the images today. The tunnel books feature a linoleum cut of the Taj Mahal, an international symbol of love. I am one of the lucky people to cast my eyes on this monument in person. To get there is a challenge as one has to navigate through throngs of people in order to reach a massive entry gate. Passing through the gate, the impressive building reveals itself. It is considered an international symbol of love representing the love of a man for his wife. The…
